Choosing the right guitar is ultimately a personal choice that should only be made after contemplating the options available. You must also bear in mind that natural materials are not completely predictable but there are a number of objective facts to consider that can help guide your decision.
Wood is a natural material and trees are subject to many constantly changing influences, including moisture, soil conditions and growing space. We can predict the general affect of these influences on a given species in a specific region but the properties of individual pieces of wood can vary considerably even within a single species. You could say that pieces of wood are like snowflakes – no two are exactly the same. Likewise no two guitars will ever likely sound exactly the same, even if made from the same materials from the same batches of wood. However, the general characteristics that are known about the various materials are important to consider when choosing materials for a guitar that would best suit your tastes and needs.
