Musical Friends

Steam City Jazz Band – A great traditional jazz band based in Devonshire in the UK with a fine tenor guitar player using the Eddie Freeman re-entrant tuning.

DinnetteOne of Vancouver’s newest Gypsy Jazz groups.

Gadjo Playboys – to quote their website, The Gadjo Playboys “resonate  like a long lost uncle bearing the gift of rhythmic childhood memories”.  Pretty much the cheekiest band I’ve met recently.  Good people…

Swing Noire – Vermont’s premier gypsy jazz band.  Check out the rhythm guitar player – not only is he a great guitarist, but he builds a mean website.  Jared Volpe is the mastermind behind parkguitars.com, and I think of him as part therapist, part webmaster, part marketing guru and all dear friend.

The Mighty Aphrodite Jazz Band – a powerhouse band playing swing, dixieland and traditional jazz.

Sebastien Giniaux – both Sebastien’s trio and the band Norig wowed audiences at Djangofest NW in 2007. He is a stunning musician.

Billet-Deux plays acoustic jazz influenced by the work of Django Reinhardt and his musical heirs. Music filtered through the cafes of Paris, the tradition of Django Reinhardt, Classical concert halls, and modern jazz all combine within Billet-Deux to create a incredible musical experience.

Pearl Django – Fine Gypsy jazz and acoustic swing from the Pacific Northwest.

Robin Nolan Trio – Virtuoso playing with style and humour. Also a great resource for books and play along CD’s.

The Marc Atkinson Trio – A heady blend of roots, classical and jazz influences converge in clever original compositions and a unique approach to standards.

Mango Fan Django – An eclectic melange of Gypsy Jazz, jump blues and tropical rhythms.

Hot Club Sandwich – Fanning the flames of String Swing in the Northwest.

Dylan Fowler – An extraordinary finger style guitarist from the U.K.  You can see and hear him play a Park Guitar outside of the usual gypsy jazz context here.

The Ross Bliss Trio plays in the contemporary Gypsy Jazz idiom, drawing inspiration from the music and genius of Django Reinhardt, and applying it to a wide variety of styles.

Mike Rud – At one time, one of Vancouver’s finest Jazz guitar players and my next door neighbour!  Sadly, Mike moved away a few years ago and now Montreal can lay claim to him.

GypsyJazzGuitar.com – Links to all things related to Gypsy Jazz Guitars.

Neil Andersson – In addition to being one of North America’s great Gypsy Jazz guitar players, Neil is also a fine painter.

The Hot Club of Boulder – The Hot Club of Boulder plays acoustic swing music in the style of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grapelli.

Cafe Americain – You will always hear music you love from Cafe American!

Ned Boynton – Ned works locally in the Bay Area with his Django Reinhardt-inspired trio Cafe Americain and with sax man Jules Broussard.

Kazango Jazz – Kazango lays down 1930’s Euro-Style Swing in Mount Shasta. Check them out!

Tom Park’s Woodcarving Website featuring his decorative songbirds, shorebirds, raptors, decorative waterfowl and decoys.  My Dad – where the woodworking genes come from….You can see his work on the cover of Wildfowl Carving Magazine.

KDL Furniture – Flexible, creative furniture for modern spaces.  Kristen shares the shop with me in North Vancouver.

Sophia Woodworks – Furniture and millwork projects.  Singlehandedly renewing Vancouver’s Gastown eateries!  Stephanie is also a part of our North Vancouver workshop.

Brent Comber Originals – Brent is my next door neighbour at my shop.  His work is fascinating and inspiring and can be seen in the finest galleries and collections around the world.
